Surround Sound Speaker Placement
Surround sound speaker placement follows some very simple rules. If you understand what each speaker does these are easy to follow. A surround system has 6 channels of audio information coming through the speakers. 4 directional speakers, a center speakers (most often used for the dialogue) and a sub-woofer speaker. This is known as the 5.1 configuration. 5 corresponds to the 4 directional speakers and 1 for the center speaker. The .1 represents the sub woofer, which is non-directional. This article deals with the installation of 5, 1 surround system.
The speakers in a 5.1 surround sound system are labeled as the following. Speaker central (also known as C), where most of the dialogue is panned, it is typically placed directly in front of the listener. Prior left (also known as FL) is a speaker and surround sound effects are passed on him, as its name describes seat at the front of the listener to the left. Before law (also known as FR), is a speaker and surround sound effects are passed on him, as its name describes seat at the front of the listener to the right. Left Surround (also known as SL), is a speaker and surround sound effects are passed on him, as its name describes sits in the light side or rear of the listener to the left. Right Surround (also known as SR), is a speaker and surround sound effects are passed on him, as its name describes sits in the light side or rear of the listener to the right. The sub-woofer (also known as LFE or low frequency transmitter) is a non-directional and can sit anywhere.
